Penalties & Appeals

Penalties are enforced in one of three tiers: L1, L2, L3. A penalty may include one or more options in the respective tiers. The table below features all penalty options for each tier:

  1. Race probations are defined as a driver being subjected to supervision during all race events for sporting code infractions related to racing only. All race penalties occurring while a driver is on probation will automatically move the penalty tier up 1 tier.
  2. Behavioral probations are defined as a driver being subjected to supervision during all race events for sporting code infractions related to racing and behavior. All penalties occurring while a driver is on probation will automatically move the penalty tier up 1 tier.

All drivers have the right to an appeal on any penalty they receive. The driver must file to appeal the penalty within forty-eight (48) hours of receiving notification of the penalty via the support section on the Discord server. The appeal process is as follows:

  1. Member notifies North Star Staff via a Support Ticket help desk on the Discord server that an appeal is being initiated. The member will also list the penalty being appealed in the notification.
  2. Three independent community members will be selected to serve as the jury. All three members must accept involvement prior to the appeal proceeding.
  3. The North Star Staff and Series Directors will present their case against the member to the jury outlining specific rules broken.
  4. The member will present their case against the rulings displayed by North Star Staff and Series Directors.
  5. The jury may ask clarifying questions to both parties.
  6. Once all jurors are ready, voting will take place. To successfully appeal a penalty, **two of the three jurors (general majority) **must agree in favor of appeal.

All drivers have the right to file a protest against a driver for breaching The NSR Official Sporting Code. The driver must file the protest within forty-eight (48) hours of the breach via the support section of the Discord. North Star Staff will review the evidence provided and rule on the protest as they see fit with the help of the Rules & Regulations. If a penalty is given, the protested party will have the option to appeal the ruling through the procedure listed in 10-3A Appeals and Protests.
